Teramo

Teramo

Continuing south, you will reach Teramo, the capital of the province of the same name. The city is located at the confluence of the Vezzola and Tordino rivers and is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.

Here you will find the Cathedral of San Berardo, built in 1158 by Bishop Guido II in the Romanesque style, and a number of other notable churches and shrines. There is also the 14th-century Bishop's Palace and, perhaps most interesting of all, a number of Roman sites - the remains of a Roman theatre, an amphitheatre and a Roman domus with a remarkable mosaic, a so-called opus tessellatum, from the 1st century. There is also an even older Roman structure, the 'Burnt Tower', dating from the 2nd century BC.
