Chieti

Chieti is the capital of the Chieti region in Abruzzo

It is said to be one of the oldest Italian cities. Today the city is divided into the old town, which overlooks the Aterno-Pescara river system from the top of the hill, and the more modern commercial and industrial area. The historic streets and squares of the old town are well worth exploring.

A good place to start your city walk is the Vittorio Emanuele II square, built on the Colle Gallo hill. The square is home to the cathedral, the town hall, the tribunal and the Mezzanotte Palace. Walk along the main street, Corso Marricino (see location here ), and make your way through the historic quarter, around the hill. Chieti also has several Roman sites, including 3 temples, a theatre, an amphitheatre, thermal baths and underground cisterns. There is much to explore here if you have the time.
