Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863-1938)

To fully appreciate and understand Pescara, a few words must be said about this influential poet, novelist, playwright, journalist and political leader.

His best-known works are “Il trionfo della morte” (The Triumph of Death) and “Il piacere” (The Child of Lust). He was also a national war hero during World War I and by advocating nationalism and proto-fascist ideologies, he played an important role in Italian politics, partly because Benito Mussolini was influenced by it.

His extravagant lifestyle and charismatic personality make him an important but also controversial figure in Italian history.
